When you focus on doubt, you see obstacles. When you focus on possibilities, you see options.

Salesy1.jpg

FREEDOM FRIDAY QUOTE:

"When you focus on doubt, you see obstacles. When you focus on possibilities, you see options." -ME! 😂😂😂

You can only focus on one thought or feeling at a time. So when you focus on doubt, your mind finds all of the reasons that doubt could be true.

When you focus on possibilities, that powerful brain of yours can start to see all the ones that might be right for you!

If you're someone who's struggled with self-doubt, fear, anxiety and depression (hello 🙋‍♀️!), the good news is, when you can start shifting that focus to hope and possibility even just 1% today, you WILL begin to see more options and ways you can replace your income, quit your job, have more freedom, and live that life you're dreaming of.

Is this something you consciously practice doing, want to start doing, or something you have questions around?

What does your dream life look like?

AccountablilityDay5.jpg

Take a deep breath, and DREAM. Think in the present tense, as if it’s already a reality.

What does your dream life look like? What does your business allow you to do?

Most of the women I work with dream of flexibility and freedom, just like I do. We want to travel a lot. We want to work when we feel most inspired.

There’s an important distinction here because lots of times, owning your own business just becomes you owning your own job!

We’re not getting you free from your “9 to 5” so you can slave away at a computer for MORE hours.

“Entrepreneurs: The only people who work 80 hour weeks to avoid working 40 hour weeks.” - Lori Greiner

Yeah, that’s NOT what we’re about here! There are other ways to be an entrepreneur!

Do you agree? Or do you find yourself feeling like there’s never enough time and there’s a never-ending to-do list?

If you want more help on the path to building your business with simplicity and ease, WITHOUT working 80 hours a week, grab the 1st chapter of my book, “The Income Replacement Formula: 7 Simple Steps To Doing What You Love & Making 6 Figures From Anywhere” (from which this is an excerpt) for FREE here.

What are the biggest things you're scared of doing in your business?

Anxiety.jpg

What are the biggest things you're scared of doing in your business?

Let's face it, we all have them.

Whether it's a fear of:
😮failing
😮getting visible
😮not being able to replicate your biggest month's success
😮not being able to replace your income & quit your job
😮having to go back to a job
😮providing enough value
😮selling and getting clients

Well, according to Jen Sincero, "All it takes to turn the fear factor around is learning to be comfortable in, instead of terrified of, the unknown."

Oh, is that all, Jen? 😂😂😂

Thank goodness, she goes on to say, "And this is done through faith."

Choose to focus on your faith, even just 1% more than your fear today.

Write down 5 things:
😍you're excited about creating with your business
😍your business allows you to be, do, or have
😍you're grateful for in your life, right now, today

Do just one of these and you will instantly work and strengthen your faith muscle!

My whys give my life meaning, which helps me THRIVE.

lifewpassion_37250283_1868921440081785_7517784010433495040_n.jpg

When you’re building a passion-based business you have to find a way to stay on track to a particular goal. You need clarity about why you’re building this in the first place:

❤️More time with your family?
❤️More time with your animals?
❤️To surround yourself with beautiful things that inspire you?
❤️To eat healthy food?
❤️To have amazing experiences?
❤️To give back to causes that matter to you?

The business is not the end-all; it’s the vehicle or conduit to get you there. It provides you with the means and the tools to have the influence and life you want for yourself, your family, and those whom you serve, both as clients and in the many ways you’ll give back when you can, because that’s part of your character.

💕A life with passion.💕

My whys give my life meaning, which helps me THRIVE.

When you connect to your meaning, you change your outlook on life. You focus on the positive. The possibilities seem endless. Your life changes… dramatically. Because knowing WHY you are committed to your dreams and passions gives you the internal motivation and external energy to get stuff done.

In fact, connecting at a visceral level with your WHY not only transforms your today, it also transforms your future. It helps you understand why you have to put in some extra time at the beginning of launching your business, and it strengthens you when you have to deal with challenges along the way.

Reminding yourself of your WHY every day also subtly shifts your mindset. Instead of seeing perceived obstacles in your way - and trust me, there will be many - you view them as opportunities. Learn to embrace those opportunities as stepping stones, not stumbling blocks.

Is one of the things I listed above THE REASON you’re building your business? Or is it something else?

Want more clients & money? You're probably not as visible as you think you are.

VisibleHoldingBack5.JPG

Monday Motivation:

Want more clients & money?

Truth because I love ya: You're probably not as visible as you think you are.

Have you heard--and really let sink in--that people need to see something 7 TIMES before they remember it?

7 times!

Add in that, not everyone sees everything you post anyway (because of algorithms, news feeds, etc.), and you've got an opportunity to be WAY more visible!

That's the good news--that this doesn't have to be hard. Doesn't have to feel weird or icky or salesy. Because when you post value consistently and make your offers consistently, your people WILL see it often enough to notice, remember you, and reach out to take advantage of your offer.

Now, I know that the word "value" can feel confusing and elusive, and I know that figuring out how to sell YOUR thing online can too. Do you have questions about how to offer it, or do you have a tip for how to provide consistent value that's worked for you!

The origin of "Life with Passion"

lifewpassion_37250283_1868921440081785_7517784010433495040_n.jpg

Like most typical 7-year-olds, my passions were crystal clear. These preferences were not taught, but sought. Nature, baby, not nurture. The nurture part is what we’re looking at here.

I loved being a leader, teaching or performing for anyone who would listen to me. As the oldest of four, I often made my siblings a captive audience.

I also loved animals, and my greatest animal love was horses. I was determined to find a way to be with horses as much as possible. Unfortunately, although I was horse-crazy from a very young age, my parents just didn’t have the money to support a “horse habit.”

Around age 12, I earned money for horseback riding lessons by taking over most of the household chores. I got my mom to fire the cleaning lady so I could do all the cleaning myself. I also did pet sitting, babysitting, and odd chores like copying my Dad’s faxes onto regular paper so they wouldn’t fade.

Even after years of earning money doing odd jobs, I just couldn’t see how it would ever be possible for me to get my own horse; I kept hearing my mom’s words in my head, “That’s a king’s sport,”... so in high school and college, I stuffed down the dream.

In grad school I was required to create a Master’s thesis project, so I decided to make a documentary for the PBS station where I was a work-study student.

After years of stuffing down my “horsey dreams,” I took advantage of the opportunity to choose my own topic, and selected a local horse farm. This farm was causing a lot of fuss in the region, and I wanted to see why… while also reconnecting to horses again.

Six months later, I’d created an international award-winning documentary called… (drumroll, please…) “Life With Passion.” Yes, that’s right. This short documentary that started my adult life, later came back to inspire the name of my dream business.

---

How about you? What’s one thing that you loved when you were young? Or a dream that you stuffed down but you still remember?

There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

AccountableDay1 - Copy.jpg

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going." -Helen Keller

There is SO much noise in this online space about how you can go from zero to a million $$$$ in 2 months with XYZ method, product, program or course.

FALSE.

I'm gonna keep it real for you! An online business is STILL A BUSINESS.

Yes, it requires a lower barrier to entry than any other type of business, in any other time in history (YAY! Super-smart move!).

BUT, when you believe the hype out there about how you can go from no business to making thousands in your sleep with minimal or no effort, you're just setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment because then you feel like you're not doing something right when that doesn't happen, right?

I totally used to be guilty of believing this and using it as a way to beat myself up, until I learned...

There's ALWAYS consistent work and visibility and learning and support behind the scenes of any success story, and it's SO key to have that perspective when you are in a space where you're hearing a lot of people bragging about numbers and "overnight successes" and what's possible.

For example, yes, it's true that I replaced my income in the first month I quit my job--but I already had an existing side hustle that I expanded!

And when you dig into the full picture of anyone's success story, you'll find the same kinds of details.

Now tell me, have you ever believed the hype, too? Or what questions do you have about busting this myth?

Are you ready to chuck all the expectations that are weighing you down?

Salesy4.jpg

If you’re ready to chuck all the expectations that have been weighing you down for years, and rediscover the real - possibly hidden - “you” that has been buried under the weight of “shoulds,” expectations and “practicality,” it’s time to throw off all that deadweight, step out of your own darkness, and into the light, where you can see a clear path ahead of you, one simple step at a time.

I promise that no matter where you are in this moment, and what circumstances surround you, you can work with whatever gifts and abilities you have right now in order to create an exciting, joyful, fulfilling generous life. Are you ready to chuck ‘em?

How does employee mentality show up in your life & relationships?

Christine+Euro.jpg

“Is this your place?,” I asked the new-to-me guy at my local wine shop. (I’m known in my circles for always befriending other local business owners and then getting into their inner circles, especially when it comes to great wine & food--I have a wine guy, a beef guy, an egg guy, a vegetable guy...). Anyway….

“Me? No way, I wouldn’t want the headache,” he said as he bagged my delicious rosé. :)

“Well, there’s something to be said for coming and going at will,” I replied.

“Yeah,” he replied emphatically. “SANITY.”

I walked out of the quaint historical wooden-house-turned-bottle-shop (my favorite kind) pondering what he said and how many people are truly, truly attached and bought into this way of employee thinking, literally equating being an employee with not being INSANE.

Now we all get to choose the way we spend our days and the way we receive our income, but when we’re SURROUNDED by people who think we are actually crazy for wanting to have our own business, sometimes we ask ourselves if we really are!

This is why it’s SO important to NOT spend any of our time or energy trying to convince others that we’re right.

Why?

Because some people truly do want to be employees, some people are scared to consider anything else, and neither of these things are our business.

We get to think they’re the crazy ones while they think we’re the crazy ones, right? (It’s kinda like what I remember about how girls and boys felt about each other in middle & high school. ;)

So what do we put our time and energy into instead of ruminating or arguing with those who doubt or question us (even if they’re the ones closest to us)?

Taking daily, business-building, money-making action toward becoming successful, as if we have blinders on and know we cannot fail.

You can’t change others’ opinions about your business any more than you can convince a family member to join your political party over Thanksgiving dinner, so set about minding your business (literally), and remember that more is caught than taught.

And keep an eye out for that employee mentality in your conversations, because when you notice it, it’s that much easier to label it for what it is and not get sucked into it!

What’s been your experience with this? How does employee mentality show up in your life & relationships, and how do you keep moving forward anyway?

Are your dreams worth fighting for?

Create&Price5.jpg

I’d like you to take out a piece of paper and a pen (or a new document on your computer) and write out the list of your still-unfulfilled dreams. Things like:

💕Having financial freedom
💕Having time freedom
💕Traveling to all the places you’ve only seen on Pinterest
💕Making a difference
💕Feeling in control of your life
💕Working when and where you want to, even wearing what you want to wear
💕Creating a life you love, that also pays the bills

Now write down what you want to put an end to. Things such as:

💥Worrying about money
💥Punching someone else’s time clock
💥Arguing with your significant other about money and/or how you spend your time

Take a look and you’re sure to see a huge contrast between the two lists! Which one excites you? Which one energizes you? Which list would you give your life to achieve? Of course, the list of dreams, not disasters! Those dreams are worth fighting for. They’re worth investing your precious time, energy, and even money, in achieving. The dreams and passions you wrote down in that list are what make life meaningful. They give you a purpose.

---
I’d be so honored if you shared one of those dreams with me!

What he wanted most, he found a way to have.

SuperCapable.jpg

What he wanted most, he found a way to have.

Charles Steinmetz, one of the great scientific minds of the 20th century, who I’ve been talking about this week, loved kids and wanted his own family, but chose not to marry because the deformity that made him a dwarf with a hump in his back and an uneven gait was congenital, and he was afraid he’d pass it along.

And, as this Smithsonian article shares, it pained him deeply to see children, like the ones he wanted so much, run away in fear at the sight of him, he chose to do his work, do it well, and be open to the possibility of how family might come to him...eventually choosing to adopt and have an extended family that way.

Maybe you’re here because you know about my infertility and pregnancy loss story, or you know someone who has.

Maybe you’ve experienced that type of grief of longing for what has been elusive, whether in family or in business.

Regardless, I KNOW you’re here because you have a big business dream, one with which you desire to support yourself, your dreams, and perhaps your family and friends’, too.

Let us all take a lesson from Charles Steinmetz who created quite a legacy of not only incredible career accomplishments, but also true personal fulfillment and joy in his 58 short years (a life with passion! ;), and look for and seize opportunities to get what we most want.

Tell me, what do YOU most want? What are you pursuing with your business-building efforts? There’s no right or wrong answer!

If he can do it, so can you.

christine-graley-profile-laugh.jpg

If he can do it, so can you.

You’ve heard people say this before about themselves, right? Things like, “I’m a millionaire, but I’m just like you. If I can do it, so can you.”

Charles Steinmetz, who I introduced you to yesterday, actually LIVED this in an amazingly tangible way.

A German immigrant who was almost denied entry to the US at Ellis Island because he was a 4-foot-tall dwarf “with a hump in his back and a crooked gait,” he went on to be an extremely influential scientist.

I think often we assume that when we see super-successful people we make assumptions that they had some kind of “leg up” (to use a horse term ;)that we didn’t, or our brains just try to categorize the big differentiator for their success (they got in at the right time, are well-connected, have family money, are prettier, etc.)

What if it’s more than those things? What if it’s making the most of how we were created, strengthening our unique gifts, and not using our circumstances, physical, location, upbringing, environment, as an excuse “why not,” as Charles Steinmetz shows us?

Then tell me, what’s your biggest takeaway? Have you found yourself with excuses or playing small, or are you showing up every day making the most of what makes YOU one-of-a-kind? How did you get there?

“Making chalk mark on generator: $1 Knowing where to make mark: $9,999.”-Charles Proteus Steinmetz

Charles_Proteus_Steinmetz.jpg

“Making chalk mark on generator: $1
Knowing where to make mark: $9,999.”
-Charles Proteus Steinmetz

Have you heard the story of the man who identified the cause of Henry Ford’s broken generator and charged him $10,000 for this seemingly simple service?

My great-great uncle Howard worked for Henry Ford and was witness to this event, and my dad got to hear this tale told at every holiday gathering growing up :).

Why do I share this legendary lore?

Because so often as service providers, we tend to want to devalue our services because they’re so easy for us and we get so much joy from them.

Have you ever felt or thought something like this?

“I would do it for free; so it feels weird to charge someone for it!”

“Can’t everyone do this? It’s so easy for me!”

When something comes so naturally to us and we love doing it, it DOESN’T mean that everyone can do it; it means that it’s very likely our Zone of Genius, and it is the very thing it would be wise to double-down on offering and charging for!

You can read the full story and more about this amazing man here.

Then tell me, have you found yourself saying these same things? How have you overcome them or how will you begin to shift them now?

Do you feel stuck or is your flame burning bright?

36177059_2168518620055837_6246544076741541888_o.jpg

Confession: I was an honor student, scholarship-winning class president, and most likely to achieve type for my whole young life. I had big dreams and goals, and I knew I wanted to run my own business “one day,” but I couldn’t see how to get there.

I knew that, even as a young person, my flame was slowly flickering toward extinguishment in between these momentary rushes of oxygen. So for over a decade of my adult life, I “settled.” I felt stuck.

But eventually, I learned that I didn’t have to accept the “same old, same old,” and neither do you. I learned to light the fire of that small candle of hope, give it oxygen and a place to burn, and turn my life into a blazing fire that not only fuels myself, but that gives light and energy to thousands of women just like you.

What progress can you choose to celebrate in your business today?

CelebrateSeries3.jpg

💕"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." -Thoreau💕

Can you look at anything--and I mean ANY-thing--and find the good in it?

It's so so true that what we CHOOSE to see in any given situation, challenge or triumph is what gives it meaning.

For instance, so many of the women I talk to have a hard time celebrating what they perceive to be little things in their business.

They think that by saving up the celebration for a "big" milestone, like a $5k month, or a first or next client, it will somehow motivate them more, or that the smaller things (like booking a call, or having warm leads, or getting visible) don't count, only the big ones do.

💥And I used to feel the same way.💥

👉But here's the thing--99.9% of being an entrepreneur is the journey itself. The milestones come, yes, but when you reach them, it's typical to move quickly on to focusing on that next big goal, that next level.

By choosing to see the progress you're making daily, and to celebrate it, however small it might feel to you, you're training your brain to enjoy the journey, and when you do that, business-building becomes infinitely easier than if you're trying to motivate yourself with pressure (which is how a lot of the world does it, and that ain't NO FUN--plus it doesn't work as well!).

So, what progress can you choose to notice and celebrate in your business TODAY?

To making impossible things happen!

CelebrateSeries2.jpg

💕"Nothing is impossible; the word itself says, I'm possible." -Audrey Hepburn💕

And you may have heard this quote before, but I've got a different twist for ya :)

As I was thinking about it, I realized that we're taught that things are impossible except in fairy tales, and that life isn't a fairy tale.

Growing up, I was a total idealist, so, naturally, I loved fairy tales. I was also a huge musical theater nerd, president of the Thespian Society...and always in the chorus because I didn't have the voice to be a lead. 😂

Anywho, my junior year of high school, we did Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, and the lyrics from the song "Impossible" follow:

"Impossible
For a plain yellow pumpkin
To become a golden carriage!

Impossible
For a plain country bumpkin
And a prince to join in marriage

And four white mice
Will never be four white horses
Such fol-de-rol and fiddledy dee dee
Of course is
Impossible!

🙌 But the world is full of zanies and fools
Who don’t believe in sensible rules
And won’t believe what sensible people say

And because these daft and dewy-eyed dopes
Keep building up impossible hopes
Impossible things are happening every day!"

😍 I especially love the way the song ends:

[Cinderella]
You could change it all. You could make it all happen!

[Fairy Godmother]
No, but YOU could change it. YOU could make it all happen!

So here's to YOU. The ones looking to finish 2018 STRONG! Here's to us, the ones the world might call "daft and dewy-eyed dopes," who are going out and making impossible things happen every day!!!!!

Do you believe it? Are you as pumped as I am?

Are you consistent in your marketing strategy?

fotografierende-1075809-unsplash.jpg

"Content is king. I've never done a single Facebook LIVE, not 1 webinar. We've just focused on putting out really great content, and our business is doubling year over year."

These are the words of Nashville-based author Donald Miller, who shared them with me over a lunch together.

What does that mean for you?

👉It means (and you've probably heard me say this before, but hey, Donald Miller agrees!) that the medium does NOT matter nearly as much as the message.

👉It means make magnetic messaging that helps your niche, be consistent, and they will find you.

Don't jump from tool to tool because there's a hot new thing or some influencer said that this is the new way to blow up your business.

Be consistent, be authentic, be generous with the value you provide in your content, and then let people know how they can take the next step with you if they want.

Now, have you found this to be true in your own business? Or what questions do you have about this strategy?

How far away are you from your dream?

Copy of beverage-coffee-computer-877695.jpg

"When you were little, you believed everything -- anything-- was possible. With wide, innocent eyes and a gap-toothed smile, you loudly demanded that you be given all the same opportunities as the big people in the house, whose knees and shoes you knew well from your seat on the floor. Full of determination and desire, you believed you could do whatever you wanted, starting with actually walking across the room by yourself!

It may seem like a small thing now, but to a 13 or 14-month old toddler, it was the entire focus of your day. Until you mastered it, you were obsessed… you never quit, even though you failed, over and over again. You got right back up on your feet, unwilling to give up.

As you got older, you had dreams and goals... Big ones. You were going to be famous! Maybe you were going to be a veterinarian, or an actor, or perhaps even president. My choice was to be an astronaut… or work at McDonald’s (because I was fascinated with the ordering buttons)... or both. I’m sure my parents were thrilled with the latter.

Time passed. You got older, and either played by the rules or rebelled against them; more than likely, a bit of both, though you were probably a “good kid.” Your world was filled with “practical” voices, telling you what was expected of you. “This is the way the world works,” you were told. The young adult version of you, though still idealistic, slowly, sadly, began to believe what the voices said."

Can you relate to this? Do you feel that like me, you went through the loss of your dream on your way to finding it again (or are you somewhere on the path?)

Do you know the answer to this key question in your business?

Salesy1.jpg

"The core question people ask when they pay money is: "What problem can you solve that nobody else can solve?" -Perry Marshall

Do you know the answer to this key question in your business?

For me, it's that I've helped more people quit and stay out of 9-5s than anyone else I know. Hands down.

When I was starting my business and working with my first few clients, before that was true though, I knew that taking a STAND for women who wanted to quit and find what they loved OR make a struggling business work so they could stay out was my jam. Period.

So what problem can YOU solve that no one else can solve? Do you know?

If you don't know, don't beat yourself up over it--just spend a few minutes reflecting (I always find journaling really helpful for this) and then come back here with any questions or insights!

That reflection time is going to pay dividends in clarity or an awareness of where to focus your attention to get that clarity so that you, too, can answer this question with ease!
