What does accountability mean to you?

When I was in high school, this word often came into my life in the form of “accountability partners” from peers. Accountability in homework, sports, or matters of faith. The point being, it was peer-to-peer. And that works for some things, but what I found really works for me, for my clients… where true accountability happens, you have to have some skin in the game. My husband is never going to be my accountability partner, know what I mean? (sounds like the fastest way to a fight...). And skin in the game usually means paying someone. It means, I have to pay someone ENOUGH, that it’s going to hurt if I don’t do what they say. This has worked for me countless times now, and I’ve seen the difference in paying clients and those who receive advice, coaching, or direction “for free.”
