I'm still glowing from an incredible experience.

Last week, I had the privilege of seeing one of my favorite bands, Punch Brothers, perform in a small venue. I see them about once a year, so I can often mark the changes in my life by how I feel when I see them play.

It's always special to me, but this time, it was a truly magical experience. The harmonies of 5 voices sharing poetic lyrics, the way their 5 acoustic instruments quickly filled the amphitheater with the warm resonance of perfectly blended melodies; I closed my eyes to experience it even more fully.

The truth is, I used to be SO jealous.

Why? Not because my dream is to be in a band.

But because the lead singer, Chris Thile, is MY age, and he's known what he wanted to do since he was tiny. It's like his body grew up around the mandolin, and now it looks and operates like an extension of him--he's one of the best players in the world, and the youngest person ever to receive the MacArthur Genius Award.

He's my musical crush.

I used to leave the concerts saying, "He's the same age as me. What have I done with MY life?" Because there I was, working in a job I hated, experiencing these brief, wave-riding moments of inspiration that were followed by pounding crashes of despair and discontent.

I felt like I was wasting time.

This concert was different, though. Because now, when I looked at Chris and his amazingly skilled bandmates, I felt a reassuring camaraderie with them. An inner peace and comfort that I finally know for myself the joy you can see on their faces as they masterfully play.

Now, I, too, am doing what I was made to do.

How about you? Do you feel the same? Or do you struggle and worry?

The beauty of this life is, each day we have an opportunity to make new choices for ourselves, ones that can change our present and our future.

Don't waste it. You have the power to choose.

Today is YOUR day to choose.

You are so incredible. Believe it today.

Christine
