Sometimes you have to mess up in order to get the feel for yourself and not be a robot.

I had this magical lesson on Graley this week, one where I felt like I was starting to really GET it, to understand what my trainer was asking me to do, and to actually be able to implement it.

When I took lessons growing up, it was always listening to the instructor telling me where to move my body parts and when, but never really understanding why, or what that got me (other than her praise and staying on the horse).

When I started taking lessons at my current barn, there were a lot of mentions of "feel" and questions of, "Did you feel that?" when I'd be working on implementing something. I almost always answered, "No!" or "What am I supposed to be feeling?" My trainers were always patient, assuring me that I'd get it and not to be too perfectionistic about it (ahem); that it takes time.

In this week's lesson, I flat out asked my instructor to tell me every time I did it right. She obliged some of the time, but eventually told me, you have to mess up some in order to get the feel for yourself and not be a robot.

In so many ways, this is the same as our journey to become entrepreneurs. We start thinking the answers lie outside of us, but the best coaches and mentors are the ones who help you discover who YOU really are, how YOU best operate, and how YOU're showing up in the world in a way that gives you life AND helps others fulfill their potential.
